Apparently, you can eat too much of anything.

A guy doing the royal lectures whatever on food said that one biochemist he knew died of drinking too much carrot juice.

Do you not find that too much garlic confines you to the smallest room in the house !!

... you don't get colds though !!    :D

Oh I'm mostly confined to the smallest room, nothing to do with garlic, though.

I think the problem is more what you don't eat when you are taking vast amounts of one thing.  I agree ... varied diet.

I was never the world's greatest sprouts fan until I tasted them with pan-fried chestnuts.  A bit fiddly peeling them but well worth it.

Aidy - do you mean stripped the leaves or sprouts?  I'm wishfully thinking that sprouts re-grow on the stalk?  Do you get more if you take them all off?  Also I think mine may be blown but what does that actually mean? Sorry to ask you so many dumb questions.

Now I've worked out what "blown" means, (the sprouts themselves gone a bit leafy) - I realise some of mine are too.  I'm going to strip mine too.

One other thing - some of my stalks bent early in the season so they're a kind of L shape.  The plants are alive, but any ideas why, so that I can prevent it happening again next year?  I'm thinking it may be because I didn't firm them in early enough, being an absolute beginner.

Munty you don't know how glad I am that you didn't diagnose club root.  I was dreading that diagnosis.  I have now realised that not all plants like light and fluffy soil.  Live and learn.

Steaming with onions - good idea, I'll try that soon.  But not the blown ones I guess.
