Snowdrops collection...
« on: February 13, 2019, 07:49 »
Here's a pic of our local churchyard, where at this time of year, the south corner is just covered with lovely blooms!

They'll soon give over to primroses and daffodils, with a few polyanthus as well, then loads of violets, so we get a great free view from our garden!

But one of our friends here is an expert on snowdrops, and as Mrs Growster and I bought a lot of new bulbs recently, I'd be very interested to know who it is, and, can she confirm the staggering numbers of varieties?

It was Mrs Bee who was a galanthophile(sp) & she doesn’t seem to come on any more.☹️ I used to love hearing about her cooking exploits

That is so lovely! I have many flowering at the moment and have just ordered some rose-pink Cyclamen coum so they will be flowering with them at the same time next year. I also have lots of Scilla syberica that flower a bit later on so they might be nice there also.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

They're beautiful.  The photos really do make them look like snow  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I need to go to a well known optician, until I read Yorkies comment I thought the pics on the right WERE snow! They are fantastic, thanks for showing us, Growster.

Thanks, All!

Our collection is from 'a local GC', and consists of 'Woronwii', 'Flore Pleno', and a load of others from various gardens around here!

We just love them, and hope we can get them all going next year, maybe in pots, but somewhere pleasant!

When my beautiful blue Scilla Siberia finish flowering do you want me to send you some as they are absolutely stunning under trees and anywhere they can get a bit of shade and sun during the year. They also spread quite nicely so you can get little clumps of them wherever they prefer to be.

No problem Mr G, will do. I have another bulb that tool a while to get going but last year I saw some new ones appearing nicely amongst my hostas and some other small greenery plants such as ferns, and it's called the Autumn crocus. It has pale lavender flowers on 6" stalks that usually fall over but they didn't last year. They looked so lovely and can recommend them for the churchyard.
