Martin ( moneysavingexpert.com) has his own show on the TV called " it pays to watch" tomorrow night channel 5 @ 7.25 pm, He is doing a bit on keeping chickens 8) as a money saving idea, should be worth a look.

I think we're better off not to have kept track of all the stuff we've bought, compared to the number of eggs :?

Why's that Rosemary? Have your eggs started slowly? Ours did too, initially, but now things are much better.
I've said on here before that our chooks are self-funding. Each time we sell eggs, the money goes in a jamjar in the kitchen, and when we go to get grain, we take money from the jar.
They also provide us with eggs.
And having just caught up with the whole Chicken Out/Fowl Dinners intensive chicken farming thing, I don't think you can put a price on fresh, healthy, eggs from your back garden - without any chickens suffering in inhumane conditions.

Well I must say it was a little disappointing, and them eggs where mucky :shock: , mine are never like that, they would probably get given to the cat if they were.

Well we only have two hens so we never get THAT many eggs - enough for us and enough to give away to friends/family but not enough to sell.
I agree that you can't put a price on the eggs from your own hens - I see ours more as pets than something commercial.
As we don't sell our eggs the hens are constantly costing money (through their food/bedding etc) but that's the same with our cats and dog too.
