Title: Sea shells
Post by: Flowerpower136 on October 01, 2016, 15:52
I assume any sea shell can be bashed up for the girls as a supply of calcium?  ie, Not just oyster shell?
There are lots of limpet shells near here, so I was wondering if they might do.

I cook up egg shells and they feast on those.
You could try with a few, but breaking them up small enough and not too sharp may not be easy

Having a look at some I've bought there are some quite sizeable pieces of what look like cockle shell. That's what made me think of the beach comber approach.
Might have a go and see if I can get mine looking like the bought stuff. Take a hammer to a bag full and see what happens.
How long do you bake the egg shells for? Just stick them in when oven in use?

I normally boil mine, though baking would be easier...if so a few minutes after cooking when the oven is cooling would be good
