Boys got to go
« on: August 07, 2013, 11:29 »
:( Thought I'd got away with it but today distressed neighbours apparently plucked up courage (I'm not scary !) to tell me how upset and disturbed they are by the crowing. Oh dear  :(
and there is a 10 week boy growing fast  :(

Bye bye to the boys - off to the farm this morning. Very happy to have found somewhere, very sad to see them go. Spent hours watching the 'gentlemanly' behaviour over the past months. They were great fun and will be missed even by himself who has gone from " you  said you were only getting 2 hens! " to "I liked those, why should neurotic neighbours tell us what to do" I am going to go round now and ask people how they felt.

Glad you have found a home for them Jo57.

I do sympathise but when I have a cockerel at crowing stage it can even drive me nuts.  This is probably because I am worrying that it disturbs my neighbours.  I have checked with my closest neighbours, they are all fine and some like the crowing.  When I have a cockerel his is kept in a separate coop and only let out after 8 am.  I am working on soundproofing a coop for a young Barred Plymouth Rock bantam cockerel I am wanting to breed from, he is around 7 weeks old so hopefully won't crow for a while.  I have found that if you separate them on an evening when they are young they soon learn where they are supposed to sleep.

Seems very strange in the garden this morning - very disjointed. No sign of a little flock. All wandering in pairs or alone. You would not guess 8 bantams there. Sulking?
