gherkin pickling question
« on: August 03, 2013, 08:36 »
I want to pickle the gherkins I am growing, but at the minute I only have 2...

Can I add them gradually (ie as they grow!) to a jar of pickling vinegar or do I need to wait till I have more and do it all at once?

If it's the latter, any suggestions on what to do with 2 small gherkins?  ;)

I'm growing cornichons and I've had a sum total of two  :nowink:

I ate them just like cucumbers  :)

I don't think there's any point trying to pickle them ad hoc. You might not get any more   I'm not holding out much hope. Can't think why they're not doing their stuff  :(

Surbie, why not just try it.  Suppose you don't get enough then perhaps buy some to finish the jar.  I can't see how it will fail as the ones you drop in will be pickled any others won't interfere with that.  I'd wing it Danno.

Thanks for the tips CQ and BobE. I've made the pickling vinegar so one is going in and I want to eat one - a combinations of both your answers  :) .

I've got about 5 more pickling cukes coming at the minute, and one more on the diamant gherkin, but that is a very sickly looking plant. If i'm lucky I might get one full jar!
