Maximising my aubergine yield?
« on: July 07, 2010, 20:24 »
My aubergine plants are humungous (to the left of the watering can).

Should I be pinching out the growing shoots and some of the flowers to maximise the yield? They are in a VERY hot polytunnel and I'm occasionally feeding them with nettle stew.

you can pinch of tips out when the plants are about 12 inch high. This causes the plant to produce more sideshoots which the Aubs come from. Feed with tamorite etc when the fruit starts to form. Limit plants to 4 or 5 aubs per plant.

Hmmm, no consistency there then

I'm not very good at removing flowers, but might try half left and half limited to see what happens.

Thanks for the advice  :D

Then they are not getting pollinated.....hand pollinate with a soft brush  :)
I wouldn't remove any flowers until you are sure you have some fruit growing, or you may end up with none :(

I usually get some fruit, but the summer just never seems to be long enough for them to grow to a decent size. Every autumn I end up with a few very small fruit.
