I just ordered 3 which is far too many. Will they keep until next year if I don't use them all?

I used 3 bulbs, getting 8-12 per bulb, which isn't too much space but will be more than we will use, so we'll share them then

I suppose I'll have to force them upon the family. They have more space afterall.

Plant them all.
Some will fail to come up, I lost 4 from this years planting of 18.
If too many still, then keep a couple of the garlics back for next year and plant the cloves then.

I've got 3 spare trugs or rhino things from ASDA. I figured I could plant the garlic in there but how many? Can I get away with planting more than one clove?

How big are the trugs / rhino things?

I guess you are talking about planting into containers?

I measured up and they're just under 50cm in diameter and roughly 34cm high.

A very quick estimate with a very quick sketch here. Using a 9" spacing in a diamond formation, I reckon you'd get at least 9 cloves in one of those. Close it up a little and you'll be looking at a dozen or more.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

But if you drill holes in them for drainage, which you need to provide, don't lift them around too much by the handles or they won't last too long.

Sounds like that one's sorted then  ;)

Good luck with them.... plant up smartly and stick them out for a bout of cold weather to help the cloves divide.

(I think I've got that right???  ???

Thanks for the info. I've drilled holes and just waiting for the compost to thaw before potting. I'll probably just do 9.
