rabbits!
« on: September 13, 2011, 17:07 »
I have a few hens on my allotment, they are in a large garden shed surrounded by six foot fencing which has been buried a foot or two all around.

I went to let the girls out as usual this morning to find a rabbit scampering into some bramble undergrowth inside the chuck run!!!!  Is the rabbit a danger to my girls? Will they transfer any disease? or shall I leave bunny alone?

leave it alone! our girls live with four rescued RSPCA unwanted pet rabbits and they live very happily side by side (the hens love the rabbit food and the rabbits drink from their water)
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)

The rabbit sounds fine, but how did it get in?  If a rabbit can get in, can other animals follow it?

rosie that is lovely, ours often move into each others property too, we just leave them to get on with it.

I agree with Lindeggs - how did it get in as where rabbits go, so will Mr Foxy!

If the rabbit had got in with mine, it would only take a matter of days for my girls to figure out how to ambush it and then it would be a bunny breakfast! I'm sure the dinosaur is still in my girls! :tongue2:

We have 2 rabbits living in the hens enormous enclosure. The thrive side by side, swapping each others foods etc. The rabbits have a lovely life, being able to scamper all over and not shut in their hutch. In fact we have found that the rabbits sleeping in the coop as well.
