Dark Crown
« on: March 28, 2011, 14:02 »
My lovely Light sussex hen Lester has become lethargic, has slight diarrhea, and now her crown is turning purple.  I have read these are the symptoms of avian flu...

Any ideas? Help anyone?

She is still eating/drinking and hasn't lost weight.

Hi there, crown going purple can be a sign of poor circulation or heart problems, if you think its avian flu then you need to contact DEFRA  or call your vets asap.  how old is your hen?

Very unlikely it's avian flu unless there's some identifible vector like some one returning from a country where there'san outbreak.  Could be a heart problem.
