Home Made Paper Pots...........
« on: March 02, 2010, 09:27 »
Can anyone put me on to a link for making pots out of old newspapers?
I've scanned a lot of threads and used the search tool to no avail!
I once saw an article that used a glass tumbler as the mold but can't find it now!

If you feel like making something larger and square, here's an easy to follow one:

I'm betting that newsagents will be glad to get rid of old papers for free, or somewhere like hotels or even neighbours.

That's brilliant, thanks! I saw one of the newspaper pot makers in one of my seed catalogues and it was a tenner - I've already paid for my deoderant and the Sunday papers so these pots are FREEEEEEE!  :D

Yup!
By using the print on the side of the can you're able to keep the pot size uniform or use different marks for other size pots!
I've got loads of sweet peas in a cardboard box full of home made paper pots. All for free! :D

Richey's method is great, though I've found a double thickness of paper lasts a bit better.

I.e. for tabloid size paper, don't tear it in half, just fold a whole creased sheet (so it's sort of 4 ply)

Hi,

Thanks Trillium.
Thats a great money saver!
Now where can I get hold of some of newspapers?

If you're still looking, just a thought of where you can often get free papers - if you happen to ride the trains, particularly on any London routes, you can often pick up quite a few that people/commuters leave behind - my Dad regularly comes home with armfuls from the Reading - Waterloo line trains (and he only goes 3 stops) as we use newspapers a lot at the moment for our puppies.

bit specific, but it might help if your stuck for some!

That's brilliant - thanks - I'm going to give that a go.

I'd love to show the children at school how to do that too.... rapidly running out of time but... might just squeeze that in for fun tomorrow!  ;)
