dahlia
« on: April 09, 2009, 21:52 »
my daughter wanted a dahlia cos she liked the look of it as 6 yr olds do....so we went to plant it today.
i brazenly pulled off all the tubers and planted them thinking it a bit odd that they were in teh packet and not seperated like other bulbs.i realised my error when i looked on the packet and it said 1 dahlia.  ::) ::) ::)

will it still grow or am i best throwing them away and getting another one?

Hi R W

It might make shoots with the tuber parts that you have planted; but less likely to flower this year.  No harm in getting another one for her so she won`t be dissapointed.
Dont forget to cover over with fleece when the shoots come through at any sign of frost.

Good Luck and hope she has lots of lovely flowers.
Everyday is the dawn of a new error...

Tubers won't make plants :( They are just the fuel tank, and the shoot comes from the stem - so when you divide them up you need to separate the tubers and include a piece of stem with a sprouting shoot on it - thus you have to start off in a tray of compost to get the shoots to sprout before you can divide them up.

You may be lucky, but I fear not :(
