Do you know why it's  best  not to grow Leeks in tubs ?

Planted a few spare leeklets in tubs , tryed to harvest a few today and had to cut the roots right around each plant with a long knife to get 'em out where they had knitted together!

Still tasty though ! :)

Here's my Veteran's Day harvest.  Peppers and tomatoes but not bad for November.

The green bell peppers and a few of the Serrano chilies are going into pepper chicken for dinner tonight.

Be careful cutting around leaks with that knife or you'll end up with a tub full of leeks.

Or the other way around...
... I'll get my coat.

My final harvest of 2020 Re: Daily Harvest
« Reply #154 on: December 02, 2020, 00:07 »
I thought my final harvest was last night, November 30, Serrano chilies, cayenne, and sweet banana peppers, plus a few tomatoes that I will ripen indoors, or fry green.

But today, I realized there were a few hot peppers that I missed, still in fine shape, so I picked those today (December 1).  [after more than a few misfires, I finally managed to get a couple photographs up!]

Nothing will survive the below freezing temperatures that we will have tonight. I consider myself fortunate, and am thankful for the plants that have kept producing all this time, as well as to have a little produce this late in the year.

Yesterday I harvested what must be my biggest parsnip ever, plus lots more, wish I’d weighed the bucketful now before I distributed them to the neighbours!

Popped in to the allotment on Sunday and picked a few leeks.  Not the biggest but they'll make a few pots of soup so they're chopped, bagged and in my mum's freezer.

I was driving past the plot yesterday, so I stopped to check all was OK.  It is, but the soil is very, very wet.  Too wet to do much any time soon.

I grabbed a swede and a cabbage while I was there though  :)

I've not been to the plot for more than a week, it's just been too wet, but I have been picking leeks and Tundra cabbage form the garden. Next year I'll grow some of my swede here as well, it makes perfect sense to have some of the winter veg near to hand :)

The last of the swede, last of the January King cabbage and nearly the last of the leeks.

There are signs of life from the perpetual spinach and some of the chard has survived, but slim pickings otherwise.  Might be freezer reserves for a while now

First thing harvested this year, I pulled a couple of radishes.  The variety is called French Breakfast, but we're having them in salads with dinner.

I thinned a bunch of turnips that looked like they were not going to make proper roots.

Turnip greens are delicious, so the culls from my thinning became a nice pot of greens!  They are best when blanched, so after cleaning, bring salted water to a boil (teaspoon salt to a quart), drop in the greens, wait until they return to a boil, then wait one or two more minutes and drain.  You can season in any way that you would usually season greens.
