Title: Ripening sweet peppers
Post by: safetrade on August 12, 2012, 10:40
Hi all,I have some Mohawk sweet peppers in my pollytunel that have a load of peppers on and they seem to have stayed green for the last 4 weeks without getting any bigger so I am presuming they are full size and was just wondering how long it takes for them to turn colour or if I should be picking the full size ones and try to let them ripen at home.

They're not good at ripening off the plant, I'm afraid.

Think of green peppers in the shops -they don't turn red do they :(

Even on the plants they take ages but it's the time that changes from green pepper taste  to sweet and scrummy  :)

I love the green pepper taste - it is really refreshing - most of mine are eaten at the green stage.

I'm not sure all peppers are the same though. If I buy a pack of basics peppers from Sainsbury, if I don't use them fast enough I often find they change from green to red or yellow, even in the fridge.
