Title: Turkey Manure???
Post by: pookey on March 25, 2007, 21:46
Is Turkey manure usefull for anything?

I asked a local farmer could he spare a smidge of manure for me (there was the largest pile of manure outside his shed) and he said that it was turkey manure and he didnt think it would be much good for veg but he had a bit of cow manure left.

He then hopped into his tractor, put the scoop on and went round the back, filled it with cow manure and drove it a mile down the road for me!

He has also offered me wood chippings (mulch, paths etc).

I think hes low on the cow manure but got loads of turkey, would it be any good?   I'm sure hed be happy to chuck a bit my way.

Great on the compost heap or comfrey bed.  Dunno about straight onto garden - doubt it.

get the turkey manure now and put it in a big bin and dont use it till next winter .have 2 bins going and mix the cow manure with it . make a layer of cow and then put turkey on top and then more cow manure .cover with a black tarp  and let it cook . dig it all in next year ( winter ) and you will be in plant heaven next spring ...... don t put roots in it . if you want to use some of the cow manure now you can put some in your runner bean trench
