Spinning sheep fleece

hi i,vebeen really lucky a friend gave me someof her fleeces this year ,so i,m started to clean them ..great fun ..

hubby was shock to find a sheep in the bath   but they have come out great ..

now to find a spinning wheel ect ..
does any one on here spinetc ..

has it got a short or long staple (length of the hairs) the fleece is generally carded or combed using 2 paddles full of little hooks http://handspinner.co.uk/wool_hand_carders.html#hand, or two wicked handles full of nail like spikes http://www.woolcombs.com/w/Welcome.html, into rolags, then spun from those, you can either use a spinning wheel (faster) or a drop spindle (can be as simple as a stick through a pebble with a hole in it - but must  have a hook at the top to slip a loop round.
once you have spun the wool, you will generally take two balls of spun wool and ply them together by spinning the two together in the opposite. direction to that wich they were originally spun to form a strong yarn.

I used to take my mum to a spinning club, and it wasnt worth going home between - so I joined in, I actually spin using a wheel left handed, which meant I kept getting given the job of plying up the yarn.
Once learned never forgotten, plus drop spinning was a good pastime for re-enactment, though my main interest there was weaving.

Despite the hair length, you also must consider the coarseness of the wool. Some fleece is good only for rugs, while others like Merino are best for clothing.
