Those look really good, though this year I have cut my growbags in half, stood them on end and planted tomatoes and cucumbers in them this way, only two plants per bag.  Fingers crossed they will be fine.   Usually I use old giant flowerpots with the bases cut off (re-use over and over) I then plant the flowerpots in the growbag and fill pots with compost... but thought I would try this method this year.

Sorry rcf, I don't use them (I just cut the bottoms out of my large pots and stand them on soil)...but I think some peeps were looking for some earlier in the year...I'm sure someone will turn up eventually.  :)

I'm using them for the first time this year. All growing well so far, will have to report back at the end of the season.  :)

I'll maybe ask over on GYO then and see what they say.  I'm all for new technology, but not at all for over engineering, and sometimes it's a fine line.  I like the idea of having a built in watering system incase I want to go away, but I have friendly neighbours, chooks, cats a dog and kids so the chance of going away and not arranging something for the plants is slim and to get these per growbag could prove costly....hmmmmmm.......

I think I get it.  Seperate the water and the feed roots, by various methods/pots etc.

I may well give that idea a go next year then, whether through these or bottomless pots remains to be seen.  Thanks for the link

Hi guys, i got some old large pots and cut out the botoms, after cleening then that is.
And put them onto growbags, and filled with compost.
The plants are only a foot tall now but doing well.
We also put toms in large pots in greenhouse.

By the way we don't have an allotment, jest grow in tubs and troughs and raised beds in back garden.
We had 3 allotments back in the 1970's 1980's in holyhead were we used to live.
But disabilities restrict us now, but love our fruit and vege growing lol.

My dad often used the ring-culture method for his tomatoes.

He made a wooden trough, lined it with builders plastic, added a layer of washed gravel and then stood some deep pots on that.

The tomatoes were planted at the bottom of the pots in just a little compost with more compost added over the next two weeks or so.

Water was added to the trough and feed to the pots.

Worked well for him for years and no expensive kit needed.  ;)
