Did you know that all Starbucks coffee shop shops gave away spent  coffee grounds free? You can put these in your comnpost or dig them in. Can't vouch for the digging in as I have never done it, but we do get loads for the bins - in bags inside the door, we just pick them up.

I compost my coffee grounds as they are very strong and will kill your seedlings and young plants if used neat.   If I have leftover coffee I use it to kill weeds in my gravel  :D

I never knew that thanks for that brilliant tip. I have loads of gravel and a coff addict husband. It won't do the chickens any harm will it?

I also read that slugs don't like coffee grounds so you can put them round your hostas to help protect them  :D

Thanks for the coffee tips, I am a coffee head ( I even roast my coffee beans) and the grounds went on patio grown bush runner beans last year, they were not quite a disaster but not far from it, seems like a reason has emerged for this. Slugs and snails went much faster though, and were very clever at hiding.

No slugs do not like coffee grounds, it is supposed to deter them, the high speed ones must have been trying to find somewhere to spit it outjavascript:replaceText('%20::)',%20document.forms.postmodify.message);
