Clematis question...
« on: July 09, 2024, 15:09 »
Since I moved I have tried to copy a beautiful combination I had on an arch in my old garden.
An Awakening rose and a Perle d'Azur clematis.....
I've got the right rose, growing strongly...BUT the clematis has a mauve tinge to it, rather than the clear sky blue it should be  :(
So do Clematis change colour with the soil they're planted in, it's heavy clay here, although I did dig in compost when I planted it. Or have I been sent the wrong plant?
Opinions on a postcard to...

I didn’t think clematis did react to soil conditions like that.

There does seem to be a lot of colour variation in the photos of this variety where it is sold on-line.  Sometimes the same supplier shows pictures that look blue and some with a mauve tinge to the flowers.

I did find this, which says the flowers have a light violet colour fading to sky blue.

Daft question, but is your new plant in a place where you look out of the window first thing and see the new flowers, whereas at your old house you had to go out to look at it ?

Who knows eh?
I have to open the door to look at then here, the same as I did at the last house - the only difference, apart from the soil, is they get more sun here. Could that be the answer? mmmm

many years ago I had Perle D'Azur and mine was very blue, not mauve at all.   I only had the one variety so nothig to compare with.   I think the clue is in its name.    Do you have a g/centre where you could go and have a look.  Mrs Bouquet

I can't walk much any more, so that would be difficult for me, that's why I rely on buying everything online, nowadays  :nowink:
