Hooked Beak Advice Please
« on: August 12, 2009, 21:01 »
Hi All,

Following on from my last post - all babies and mum doing well - in fact they are happily running around the garden with their aunties now and even stealing food from them!! HOWEVER.......I noticed that one of them has quite a hooked beak. The top is really long and has well overgrown the bottom and it clearly points straight down to the ground. I'm suspecting that I have to trim it (argh!!) but I just wanted to hear what anyone else had to say and what advice they could offer!! It seems very well apart from that - but I notice it does drop some food bits and am worried that it will damage its beak as the top keeps hitting the ground. All advice very welcome and much appreciated xx

How old are they now?? when I have had this I just trim the top beak a little with nailclippers then file down, you have to be careful though and make sure that you dont trim past the overgrown part and into the "quick" :)

Yeah - I thought I would ask first - I would only trim a tiny bit. They are just over 3 weeks old now. Should I leave it a little longer???? Or maybe just file it a bit????? Being a previous beauty therapist - I have quite a selection of files!!!  :D

Thanks Foxy!! I have a tendancy to panic and react on the spot!!!!! Will leave it another couple of weeks - unless it has serious trouble eating - which it doesn't appear to right now as it's crop looks fit to burst every evening!!!  :D
