Providing you change the compost they are growing in.

Apart from the nutrition depletion problem, there's always the chance of harbouring diseases.

the beds in the poly tunnel are in the ground  DD .is that a problem

Change the soil then, I used to do that yearly when growing direct in the soil. I found it such a bind though and now use large pots containing growbag compost sunk into the soil to give me the same height.

You can't beat changing the soil for fresh.

This is what I have done for the last six years in our tunnel with no problems so far. I do add quite alot of organic matter - worm casts,dried comfrey leaf, grass cuttings, compost, manure - to the surface of the beds throughout the year.
