Goats on the allotment

(1/2) > >>

snow white:
Someone on our allotment has expressed an interest in keeping goats on one of the plots.  Does anyone have any experience of this?  all I can imagine is the damage to peoples plants should they escape.

ghost61:
Wouldn't be allowed here. Only chickens and rabbits. Unless the site is privately owned, I doubt if it is permitted, as I think chickens and rabbits are specified in the Allotment Act??

Yorkie:
I agree that it wouldn't be allowed on our site.

I suspect that the allotment isn't anywhere near big enough to guarantee the goat's welfare.  Plus the need for shelter and running water.

Possible damage to crops is another real concern, as you've highlighted.

 I love my goats, but the thought of them on an allotment makes my blood run cold!!! A goat should not be kept on its own......they need company, not least to plan their escape from whatever enclosure you devise for them!!

Eblana:
We had someone who wanted to keep goats on our site as well but the owner wouldn't allow it.  He has said yes to pigs tho, so I hear we will be getting some new residents in the spring.
