Anyone coming on the kill pluck course tomorrow ??
« on: October 15, 2010, 17:15 »
I'm going with my mate as the missus I a vegi. Just wondered if anyone else will be there I'm looking forward to it. Don't know is that is a strange thing to look forward to but more looking forward to the other bits not the killing bit.

I would be interested to know what they recommend for the killlng, we have the plucking, cleaning bit sussed, but had trouble with one chicken, the others have been OK though.

I think on these courses they tend to do the broomstick method, I have done this way, plus using an axe but prefer to use one of these:-

unless it is for very small chicks (such as sickly newly hatched ones) then I do this differently  :(

thank you joyfull - looks interesting, we only do a few - any cockerels that we get from any eggs or from chicks, so we wait until they are a decent size so this should work.
We did the axe, but doing Sussex, the feathers made it tricky, it was easier on the Co - nu though.

I know roughlee did this course, I must admit to thinking of doing it myself. I put to the wife during our tea on Sunday  didn't get a good reaction to growing our own. So its on the back burner at the mo.
