Hi there, I just set some eggs away in a home-made incubator yesterday, after spending 2 days getting the temperature right. This is the first time I've tried anything like this. How are your eggs coming on? Also, the eggs closest to the light will be getting more heat than the others, by atleast 2 degrees. I'm torn between switching the eggs positions every time I turn them, or just turning them where they are and hoping for the best.... I do have 14 eggs in there though. 9 Bantie eggs and 5 big red hen eggs. (I say big red hens as I've forgotten what they are really called lol). I hope you get alteast half of the eggs to hatch as thats the average for home breeders, I've read. Well it's 60% they reckon. So I could have 9 of my eggs hatching in a few weeks, I just hope I've got everything right. Would you mind telling me what kind of incubator youre using and at what temp are you keeping them, and if you get them to hatch, did you have any heat fluctuations that you thought would be a problem but not?  I'm only asking as I dont want to be cracking these eggs open in around 24 days, and having dead chicks inside, that would be awfull. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks and bye for now, Mark

must admit i am a total novice when it comes to hens bred canaries
for years so using the same basic ways
my incubator is really a vivarium? using a pot heat lamp with a thermostat
that sits with the eggs then I can set it at the egg temp by the control
I have it set at 86 and a bowl of water in there as well to keep the air from getting to dry I turn the eggs 3/4 times a day and give them a gentle misting of water once a day
I hope this helps but as I say I'm not 100% what i'm doing but there is some very clever people on here and they will give you good advise
