Quick Shallot question
« on: February 24, 2011, 09:23 »
Hi All,
On the 6th of Feb, I planted 28 Jermor shallots on the plot.
So far only three have shown any signs.

Is this normal? Mrs FB does a fantastic recipe with Shallots, Parma Ham, Parmesan Cheese and Balsamic vinegar and I have promised her shallots by the dozen come Autumn.

As long they were in good condition when planted they should be fine (probably concentrating on putting down roots at the moment.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thanks for the reply JayG.

There were in good condition when planted I gently squeezed and checked every single one and they were all firm and looked healthy.

Be glad too, its from a recipe book that is quite old, so can I post on here?
I have seen it on the net as well.

You can post it in the recipes board FB, with a reference to its source. :)

I'm not sure I would have expected any green to be showing if I planted them as recently as 6th Feb where you are, so I think you're doing all right there.
