Hi, on a recent visit to a local garden centre, they we giving away bags of sets for free, up to five a customer, I picked up onions, garlic and shallot sets.

My question is: if these are old sets, will they grow if I put them in early next year?

I have had a lot of success in my plot with shallots and red onions, so the environment for them is right - I just don't want to waste spac if they are unlikely to grow.

Thanks for any responces!

Cheers,
VB.

Pickle the onion/shallot or plant a few to use as onion greens.  They won't keep until next year (otherwise do you think they'd be giving them away for free!)

The garlic might be worth planting in Aug/Sep if it is still in good condition.

Hi Whiskey - thanks for the advice, I'll put out the garlic it seems OK plus theres only a couple in the bag, so no worries if it don't produce. If I have space the onions as well.
