The chooks have porridge oats before bedtime. Anyone know where I buy it in bulk - 20/25kg sacks? West mids/warwickshire area preferably. Or online if the postage is good - I can order other food too.

I'm not into chooks (apart from eating them  ), but is this the done thing? I know you're not supposed to feed porridge oats to wild birds because it swells up inside them & can be dangerous / fatal?  :blink:

ex-cavator porridge is fine for chickens so long as it is made up with water and not milk (with no added sugar or salt)  .
WW sorry can't help as I buy mine from the local cash n carry but that is just in large bags (3kg I think) and I only give it to my chickens in the morning when it is frosty or snowy

there's a couple of animal food stores i know of in the west midlands - Blythe Mill Farm Supplies, Blythe Mill Blythe Road Coleshill, Birmingham, West Midlands B46 2AE and The Hungry Horse, Weeford Lane, Sutton Coldfield.

I would've thought too many oats = fat chickens = no eggs.

We just buy Tesco cheep porridge but like Joyfull ours only get it when it's cold and frosty or snow's on the ground with a cup of layers mixed in

Thanks every1. I usually buy it from tesco (cheap & cheerful brand). Works out at about 75p / kilo. I buy my usual feed supplies from the hungry horse in earlswood upert. I will give the one in coleshill a ring.

ive stopped giving it to my silkies now its warmer,
 besides they didnt like the  dryed dreadlocks of porridge i had to snip of there heads

I'd imagie you would be able to buy 20kg sacks of rolled oats at a horse feed merchant - not sure if they would make great porridge though

I tried that casey & it didnt make porridge. I think i'll just stick to buying tesco's. Got a 100gram egg today from one of the girlies so it cant be doing them too badly! They like it before bed so ce le vie. x
