First baby chick!

I just had to share this as I am home alone today!
Just checked on our broody hen as chicks are due tomorrow and could hear a little cheeping! Managed to just lift up her front a bit for a peep under and there was a chick!! Looks like a sebright chick too which is just amazing given their reputation for poor fertility.
Saw one other egg had been pipped too but put her down quickly and didn't look at the others so as not to let the chick get cold.
It is just amazing how a hen hatched from an incubator with no mother figure just knows what to do and sits there till she gets her babies. I just sat there looking at her on the nest as she shuffled a bit and made little noises back to her cheeping chick. I have to admit I almost cried!! i've totally lost the plot now!

Ahhh lovely I know how you feel as ours hatched Saturday, bad news is 2 now disappeared :cry: dont know whats taking them but I have bought the others with mum into the utility room till they are bigger. I will put them out in the guinea pig run when its warmer with mum for some exercise and the wire will keep any wild birds away (in case thats whats taking them)
