New Greenhouse, air gaps, bubble wrap & Other Q's
« on: November 14, 2008, 09:18 »
Right, I have my 8x6 £160 greenhouse in place. OH has to re fix the door as there is a decent size gap, but I also have gaps on the pointy corners (where roof meets sides on the door end) should this be there, never had a greenhouse so not sure how 'unholy' they should be?

I was thinking of getting bubble wrap for some  insulation, have seen a kit for about £28, is it worth doing this?   I have only got Chard, rocket and corn salad in there at the mo but will be growing tons of stuff next year.

Do I need a heater?

I have the greenhouse on a deck (it was the only place I could put it) should I put a sheet of something down on the floor to stop cold coming up through the bottom?

.....?  Thanks

i wouldn't bother with heating at all, we never have done. The greenhouse is very usefull to us for starting of most of our veg early in the season. you can also over winter "stuff" in there so that the frost dosen't get at it.
now, sit back and wait, some-one will be along shortly to tell you why you should use heating........

Unless you live in a very frosty area I wouldn't bother with heating. I use mine for keeping the frost off stuff in the winter and starting things off in the spring.
It's too hot for most things in the summer and I can't get down the plot enough to water.
Get a max/min thermometer and you can see what's going on through the seasons and the days. Bore your friends with useful information. Werks fer me!
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

You can bung a bit of fleece over the seed trays if frost is forecast
