Redcurrants
« on: June 25, 2013, 16:08 »
I was delighted by the amount of redcurrants I have this year, alas on looking today they have almost all dropped.  Does anyone have any hints for next year?

Welcome to the site  :) but sorry to hear about your redcurrants  :(

Have they just fallen off, or have they been 'pruned' by the birds ... ?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Those darn birds will strip a redcurrant bush in seconds!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I get a fair few drop from my blackcurrants but seen as they were dripping its not made much difference. I just assumed it was the june drop.  does that happen with currants

No, currants normally don't do that. Sounds like something is pulling off unripe currants then changing their mind.

I wonder if they've swelled suddenly with all the rain and dropped off

Even when they're swollen with rain, they'll still hang onto the stems and simply dry out eventually. The problem is often something that nibbles the stems and I'm still trying to figure out what does that. I lost a lot at the blossom stage to whatever is nibbling, and now some berries   >:(
