Title: Broad beans without broad beans inside!
Post by: Jackypam on June 29, 2013, 10:50
Anyone know what I did to deserve these broadbeans?   Last pickings were fine, but this morning I had lots like this.  Is the soil short of somerthing?  Any advice welcome.

I am sure someone more experienced will correct me but the I remember reading somewhere that it happens when they don't get pollinated properly.

RPR is correct.

You will also often find pods toward the end of the harvest with only 1 or 2 beans inside due to poor pollination.

They need bumble bees to pollinate them.  If they were not around to do their job at the right time then... no beans :(
