Is that why you're missing a toe?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

hoe on dry sunny days
Can you please explain what a 'dry sunny day ' is. Here in Cheshire it has rained near enough every singe day this month. And as for the sun my memory is not that good these days so if I want to see the sun I have to look it up in a book.  >:( >:( >:(

I wouldn't know how to use a hoe anymore as I've had a swoe so long. I can do party tricks with it to the amusement of those who have never seen one before.  :D
What type of action do you use a Swoe with?
I am tempted but it looks an odd sort of tool.
Is it as easy to use as the traditional Dutch Hoe?

It's easier.

You push it forward as you would a dutch hoe, but because the blade is angled there is less resistance than a "full on" 6" wide blade.

There are 3 cutting edges, so you can even hoe backwards and with the pointy bit you can get into those hard to reach nooks & crannies.

My Swoe is a great piece of kit!

Very accurate too, especially round onions.

Made my own, well you have to do something to stay alert while on night shift engineering in a food factory (and all those stainless steel offcuts lying around) ! !  Looks like a dutch hoe but it cuts on the forward and the back stroke.  Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

The Swoe is made by Wilkinson Sword - they are soon to be releasing their new Quattro Swoe with 4 blades for even closer hoeing - the best a man can get!

A similar tool is made by Joseph Bentley but when I tried one in a garden centre, I found that the angle of the blade was wrong. Only the back edge made contact with the ground instead of the whole blade.
It may be because the handle was too long or I'm too short at 6ft.
Any day above ground is a good day.

Top Tips thanks guys
I really feel I can keep on top of the weeds with a hoe, might try the swoe if I find any spare money.
It was quite hot and dry when I started hoeing yesterday then chucked it down so I will have a look along later and see if the little horrors have died or not.

The swoe is not just just made by Wilkinson Sword, I have the one mentioned from Joseph Bentley.

I find it perfect! Been wielding it again today.
