This is a first for me, we have a plague of caterpillars eating the tops of my onions.   :mad:Does anyone know whether this will affect the storage of my onions? And does anyone know whether they will continue down to the bulbs? I have knocked over the tops now to dry them off ready for storage. Any help greatly appreciated.

i never incountered this so i wont be of much help

but i assume that caterpillars wont eat the bulbs because of the strong taste, i might be wrong though. 

i allways thought that the eggs would'nt get laid on or even near them as the strong smell would put them, off same for garlic.

yeah, I used to think that about mice and onions, but the mice in my kitchen have developed a mania for them. I mean, their eyes must be streaming.

I had caterpillars ravage my onion crop the tail end of last year, surprised the hell out of me, but they stored ok ... well, the ones that the Mighty V ( *bows*) didn't "helpfully" trim and tidy before they were dried :-S
