Does anyone else have any plans to show some veg this year?
Getting close to sowing time for most show stuff now, be nice to have a thread where we can all show what we have going on in the search for a red card!

Start one, then
Or is this it?...........................

Ok then, This is it!
I'm aiming to enter just one show this year, the frome agricultural and cheese show. The level is far higher than the village shows I've done well at the last few years.
Onions and leeks doing well. Potatoes to go in next week too.

What will you be growing for the show, apart from onions and leeks?

Stump carrots- sweet candle
Beetroot- red ace, cardeal, Pablo
Runner beans- stenner
Shallot-aristocrat
Potatoes- kestrel, amour, blue belle, Winston, Casablanca,
Tomatoes- too many to list!
Cucumbers- Naomi, Carmen
Leeks- Pendle improved
Large onions- Ailsea
Normal onions- Ciclope, Centro
Lots of potential, to go wrong!

I am entering things in a show tomorrow for the first time. It is the West Yorkshire Organics show, where the judging is on taste instead of appearance and size.
I think this is the only type of show I am likely to have much success with. Not entirely sure what I am going to enter until I go to the plot later, but I definitely intend to enter some of my lovely carrots, some red onions and if one is ready a Palivec chilli pepper.
The only classes for cooked vegetables are mature beans and potato. I am wondering how they are going to judge raw parsnips for taste though!
I will report back on how I get on.

Well, I am very pleased with my first attempt, although glad the judging was on taste as I don't think I would have won anything at a conventional vegetable show.
Two firsts - parsnip and kohlrabi
Four seconds - chilli pepper, carrot, beetroot and shallot
Five thirds - sweet pepper, carrot, cucumber, garlic and pickled runner beans
When I manage to get the photos small enough I will post some pics.

Well done!
