Hi
What time of year should I start opening the door to ventilate the Greenhouse? Should I wait till it's warmer? There's a vent in the top of the greenhouse but I can't see a way of keeping it open (The greenhouse was at the house when we brought it). I've just seen an Auto vent opener though so might invest in one.
Thanks

Whenever it gets too warm for whatever you've got in there.
Had mine open yesterday afternoon.

Not sure how you're supposed to know if it's too warm. I currently have Spring onions and Lettuce in there.

They won't want it too hot. Mid sixties max will do nicely. (oF, not oC)!

Thanks

Opening the door will create a draught, and if its much colder outside the greenhouse than in that may stress the plants.
If you can get away with Convection (throw the vents open, but not the door) I think that would be better.
But if the temperature is heading for 70F / 20C then more important to control temperature than worry about draught - but the less you open the door, the less the draught.

An auto vent opener is an absolute must for a greenhouse.

They're only about £15 on ebay at the moment ;)

That's where I've been going wrong for the last 45 years then.

Hehehe ... me too!
I like to open the vents wider on the side away from the wind .. and to leave a couple open a crack at night during the summer. Hard to do with the automatic ones.
But of course if you can't be there Morning and Evening then Auto-vents are a boon.

Snap.... or should I say "slide"?
Amazing how hot they can get once the sun's out for an hour!!

I managed to pick up a louvre vent for my greenhouse for £6 at the local auctions so am well chuffed.
However, the main reason for watching out for one is that the greenhouse didnt come with a roof opening window at all :-/
So Im wondering if i need one at all now?
What do people think, I would think that it would be sensible to have a roof one as well as the lower louvre one as theres a better chance of fresh air passage?
I would also be planning to put an auto opener on one if not both for convenience

i must be common then.. i just stick a 1x1inch stick in my windies about now and pull it out if its gonna be frosty.. and if i start to sweat when im in the greenhouse .i go outside and leave the door open till late afternoon

The simple life for me too. A stick works well. My dad's greenhouse (that I use as well) has side vents that can be slid out of the way altogether - useful when the summer's in full fling.
Needs not to be too much of a fuss as my 91 and 96 year old parents look after the greenhouse when I'm not there (which isn't that often ::)).

That's my style ;)
But with the new g/h I've gone posh with an auto opener, only £14 on flea-bay :D

Always open the greenhouse door before you go through it ::)

You would do if you didn`t.......... ;)
For those whose sight is not what it once was, such as myself, a sticker on the door at head height would be a help. Saves a bang on the nose, or worse!

Sorry but that made me laugh out loud.
I have 2 automatic window openers on a 14Ft x 8ft greenhouse and every morning I go up to the greenhouse and if its way too warm I open one door(posh here we have 2 doors) then as it gets hotter I open other door and sometimes the louver vent too.
Forgot to hot the louver vent last night so hoping it hasn't done any lasting damage.
