Used Egg Boxes when Selling Eggs

How come you are not allowed to use used/recycled egg boxes when selling eggs at your gate?? :unsure: :unsure: :wacko:

DEFRA I think, or health and hygiene.

I supposed it is because you could be contaminating the fresh eggs with something that could have been on other eggs previously in the box

or something like that.  ;)

Children can no longer make things in schools etc with toilet rolls unless they have been in the microwave and nuked to kill any nasties!!!!

In Canada we can still use used egg cartons for selling eggs for gate sales, but the sellers are always careful to use only very clean boxes. I never ever return any empty cartons that were soiled and will always burn them. The government isn't overly keen on this but they've too many other problems to deal with right now.

Many poeple around here reuse their boxes clean ones even if it isnt legal

I think if the customer supplies the boxes then it is legal if you supply the boxes it isnt. This is what the lady in our village who sells egg does. She insists you bring your own box but she has "lent" us one if we forgot. As Trillium said just dont go giving them soiled ones if you can avoid it. If anyone is concerned by this I would just remove the eggs from the box when you got home and wash them with a weak soap and water solution.
