Whats eaten my primroses?
« on: April 25, 2013, 16:01 »
Bought some primroses a week or so ago, planted them out and all the petals got eaten overnight! I thought it might have been mice but spotted a woodlouse on it this morning (do they eat flowers? I know zero about woodlices..), last year something ate all my hollyocks and the year before all my pansies got nibbled, am really strugling to have any flowers in my garden...Anyone got any ideas? I would prefer to deter pests rather than kill them....

Slugs and snails like primrose flowers.  Woodlice tend to be more rotting wood and decaying plant matter munchers  :)

Hello, no idea what's eating them, sorry. but if you read my latest post, I am overrun with them. Would you like me to send you some replacements. All colours available!
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!

Will set out some slug traps and see whats about, think i'm gonna have to lift them and put them back into pots, salvage what I can, The ones I put in hanging baskets are ok but I had planned to have them in the ground on a long term basis for spring colour...

Caroline1972, I'd love loads more in pinks, whites & reds but worried they'd just get eaten too...

Put traps out yesterday, no slugs at all but even more petals have gone, they were the only bit of colour in my garden, totally gutted, have searched the net and checked all my gardening books but still have no idea what could be eating them, will lift them later and put them back in pots and keep them up of the ground.
