Having fallen totally in love with our hens...now wondering about ducks?  Whenever I have seen ducks they always seem to make a lot more errrr what shall I say "mess" than hens... is this the case, are they particularly messy?  or am I being totally unfair.... Sorry to all the duck lovers if I am being unkind.

yup they poop loads, and they will make drinking water filthy in seconds.

but they are soooo fluffy and soft and they chitter chatter all day. all animals poo, but ducks are definately worth it.

Our ducks do make alot of mess...They poop for England and if you let them out on a wet day in the garden your lawn shall certainly be ventilated!!!

But they are worth if and i wouldnt be without ours  :)

One of them even thinks she is a chuck and perches every night!!!

I am tempted... the garden that the hens are in and that the ducks would share is very big (no we are not very rich and living in a stately home, it is a vicarage)...it's what I call the "family " garden....the doors open on to it, the children play in it, the chickens TOTALLY  TRASH it  and we have another garden area where garden parties and other vicaragey type things are ...a 6ft chain link fence divides the area and hopefully keeps the hens out....

hmmmmm it does sound as if my suspicions about poo are correct...will have to think about this one.

I have 3 call ducks and boy can they turn grass into a swomp :)
They get going with their beaks after it's rained and it's wall to wall mud.

Don't get me wrong I love my ducks but you might find your surrounded by mud and not grass very quickly

We started with a couple of pekins and a mallard couple by accident - problem is when to stop, as others ahve said they create mud and mess from nothing - but their antics are wonderful - we have had a pond made for ours - they love it - whilst not neccesary for most ducks - they do prefer the bility to dive and mess about.

Go for it - they give so much pleasure - will also save you chatting to people at garden does - they will be busy watching the ducks!
