SHIPPING BIRDS OR EGGS
« on: January 24, 2010, 12:46 »
I live on a Greek island and am trying to find out how could I ship (or even ask a visitor to bring) some new bloodlines (and types of birds) to the island. Like pheasant, different ducks etc. but I can find nothing about it. :ie; shipping or bringing by hand live birds or eggs. Anyone out there any ideas as to who to contact ???????? ???

:( it is illegal to post or take anything of animal origin outside the country without a licence. This is to prevent the import and export of disease. This includes eggs for hatching, even in very small quantities , as I have found out from DEFRA, when I wanted to post 6 silkie eggs to Ireland.  You can get a licence from a vet, but it involves having all your birds/animals that have access to your property blood tested for disease. The vet should give a certifacate, then with that certificate you can apply for a licence. It is too expensive for a hobbyist, but large breeders may have a licence.
Pets:if you don't love them like family, don't have them

in guernsey we can import hatching eggs with out a license but we need a license for live birds and thats more trouble than its worth you have to know the time they are landing if by air or sea if they are delayed for any reason and arrive late they are not allowed to land they are sent back.thats why its very difficult over here because eggs dont travel well in the post.
