Hello from Dumfries and Galloway
« on: July 14, 2019, 17:58 »
Good evening. Just been allowed in ! We have a small garden in SW Scotland with a light, stony, (not to say rocky sometimes !) soil. there is no limestone hereabouts so we tend to be neutral to acidic - rhododendrons and azaleas do well. We get strong winds and heavy rain at times from the south and SW, and after winter gales we have a deposit on the windows which I take to be salt.

My wife and I are the cremation side of 85 so we are potterers but we try to keep things tidy, plant a few things that we like, and we are just trying out a few vegetables (only been here since Aug 2017). We are very fortunate that our neighbour is a proper gardener so we can call on him when faced with something we cannot manage ourselves, or when we need advice.

When we came there was a plot covered in fabric which had probably been like that for some years. I removed the plastic and tried some spuds (Charlotte) with the result that you see attached (hopefully) - our first picking.

Sorry if this is a bit long. Must do better.
