Title: blanching in microwave

I have read somewhere that you can't blanch runner beans in a microwave, is this true? How long do I put them in for if it's ok?

You can do this by putting the  washed and prepared beans in the bag you are going to freeze them in, microwaving for three minutes and then plunging the bag into iced water until cold.

Three things to remember:
1. Don't burn yourself when you take them out of the microwave
2. Tuck the open end of the bag underneath, so that the heat builds up and part steams the beans.  :D
3. Dry the bag before freezing or they all stick together in a clump  :tongue2:

Thanks for advice, that sounds quicker and less steamy than boiling in a pan!
