What age were your hens when they started laying?

And what breed are they?

I have one RIR and one Welsummer.  They are both 24 weeks old.  The RIR has red combs and wattles and "sits down" when I enter the pen.  So I know it won't be long for her.  The Welsummer still has pink wattle and is still flighty.  No eggs yet.  Just curious as to how long I may have to wait.  They are on layers pellets with grit and oyster shell readily available.

I got 2 bovan goldlines that were 20 weeks old and already laying.  My Black Rocks didn't start to lay until they were 26 weeks old.  My Welsummer bantam is yet to lay and doesn't have the red comb yet, she is 22 weeks old.  I am going to get another Welsummer bantam around the same age this week as company for her.  Hopefully it will help her mature as she is the baby of the bunch at the moment.

It is just a waiting game.   ;)  Will enjoy my first dark brown egg though.   :D

Purebreeds are always later than the hybrids.  Most of my pure breeds were between 30 and 42 weeks when they first started to lay!
