I think she's got a soft shelled egg in her which has broken. Her vent has been oozing white fluid which is thick- I've brought her inside. this is the first time we've had a problem with the chickens and I'm a bit rusty on what to do. Thanks for any advice!

I've no experienced of this but if you search in the search box you might find some more answers.
I believe if you put her in a warm bath for 30 mins it will help her pass the egg, although if its broken I'm not sure.
You may need to get her to a vet, Good luck

Thanks for reply. I called out of hours who gave some good advice although they arent chicken specialists - read the advice on here and hoping she manages to pass it.

So far I've put vaseline on her vent and put some warm water under her.

Do I need/ is it safe to try and do an examination? internally that is - I've never done one but I want to try and get the egg out or as much as possible.

If you don't know what you're doing you'd best take her to the vet. If a soft egg has broken inside your hen it could be serious

She's had a poop now and is taking on fluids and moving around more. I will definately take her to the vets! will have a look to see if I can find any good poultry ones open in the area.
