Cherries, hhhmmm love em, do you like cherries. Yea I love em!!
So here is the question...

I'm thinking of buying a cherry tree to live in a half whisky barrel. Is it a good time of year to buy one and what should I go for?

I would like a nice eating cherry that I can eat raw, bake in pies and put in cakes.

If it is to grow in a pot, go for one which won't grow very big.

The size of a fruit tree is mainly determined by the rootstock which the variety is grafted onto, so make sure you go for a dwarfing rootstock.

i have a cherry tree that i have recently bought it is on a dwarf rootstock and only grows about 1500mm high , not tasted them yet but i think it is called morrello,     excelent for  pots

I have. Even looking at morello but it seems to be a sour cherry, not nice to eat raw but excellent for cooking. I'm having a look at a self fertile dwarf Celeste as they produce a sweet raw cherry.

I have a mature cherry tree in the garden but it is about 4 metres high. I think even the the dwarfing varieties can eventually make a good sized tree.

Last year I got 7kg of cherries before I got fed up of picking them and left them for the birds. Not sure of the variety as it was here when we moved but it makes great jam and pies!!
