[Growster...]

This used to be a staple in the Household Growster  (very little sugar etc), and since it's gone, we've mourned the passing about every three months...

But I think I just may have found a substitute; a little lime pickle in an ordinary Own Brand sweet pickle pot, mixed well in...

Anyone got a better idea please?

Oooh I can taste it now! Didn't realise it was apple based though, I just remember a very tangy, spicy taste, with not too many "bits" in. Is rutabaga like swede?

My dad used to have a store of this stuff    It got harder and harder to get though and my mum had to work hard to hunt it down in the days before Google    My dad was in the army out in India, Pakistan and the Afghan border during the 30's I think it was and on returning home to Blighty found the food far too bland for his new palate and couldn't live without this stuff

We were talking about this in the pub on Friday as a young woman had heard of it but never seen or tried it. We shall be getting some for her to try when we meet up in the put this coming Friday.

Growster - Ideal Pickles were made by Heinz - they were a bit like a piccalilli except the sauce was brown and sweeter - really lovely with cold meats.

I do not think so Growster - I am fairly sure it was available all over the UK. Ideal milk - that brings back memories - poured over tinned fruit for desert.
