Salt to kills slugs
« on: June 10, 2011, 18:34 »
I was wondering if anyone could help. If I were to put salt around my veg to kill the slugs would this damage my veg?
Thanks Gemma.

No, not sprinkled around the plants on the soil it won't. :)

You'd have to have an awful lot of it, but if you'd had the rain that we've just had, it would have all washed away by now!   ??? ???

It's not as bad as the doom-mongers suggest, unless you use loads or put it directly on the growing point (half a teaspoon will kill dandelions).

When we lived close to the coast, had draughty sash windows and no double glazing, we used to be able to taste the salt in the air indoors when there were storms, but we still had plenty of ordinary plants in our garden, there was no need to concentrate on only the salt-tolerant varieties.

Thanks for that.  :)
