First crop of the year...
« on: February 12, 2011, 18:23 »
Here's some I grew earlier.... I planted some White Lisbon spring onions last year, August I think it was, and I decided today they looked just right for eating... It's the first time i've grown spring onions and i'm well happy with them...  :D

Thats the only way to pack them for the fridge is it not?, saves the leaves getting damaged  :) :)

I take those off when I get them home from the shops, if I've had to buy them. :)

Well done, I have never ever managed to grow them successfully!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I must have sowed more than 100 seeds, and I got this bunch and ther might be another 2 bunches if I'm lucky , I had really poor gemination for some reason, maybe it was old seed, I really cant remember... but i'm happy.. so much so I bought another pack at Aldi this afternoon  :D :D

You made me decide to stop all other activities planned for tomorrow, until I have planted some Lisbon seeds.
I have looked at the packet and felt decidedly useless,I have never grown them before, but I promise ,I`ll give it a go! :)

I don't know if others mess about trying to grow spring onions in rows but I find the easiest way is to sow a sprinkle of seeds in a small pot of MPC then, when they get too big for the pot just tip them out and plant the clump anywhere you have a bit of space. As they grow they push each other apart and if you do this every couple of weeks you never have them all maturing at once.

You're not alone, I can't grow them to save my life either. This is the last year Im going to try, bet I end up with blades of grass again.

I managed to grow about 8 last year, placed them between carrot thinnings on a salad and looked very pretty.
