when is it going to be safe to fork into my compost and give it a good mix I am sure it was a female and think that there might be babies now but as it isnt so hot at the moment I havent had a good view lately, so frightend of harming her but would like to start sorting out my compost !!

Baby slow worms should be out and about on their own by now but slow worms seem to love living in compost.

I tackled our largest bin earlier this week and it was really hard to fork it out, so ended up with gloves on dragging the compost out, before then being able to mix it with the fork.

Maybe you could do this and avoid any chance 'spearings'?

although I dont mind actually moving a slow worm  with my gloves on actually putting my hands in to a heap that I know will contain something squirmy I dread (worms I can deal with) its the anticipation I think, might have to just go for it I think
