I'm still rescuing last years labels as I'm raking over, still with the pencil on them.

I sometimes use cut up milk containers and write on them with indelible pen, the sort they make for naming kids clothes, so definitely waterproof!

Sharpies - not all permanent markers are the same. I've never had a sharpie wash off, as long as you keep it dry for the first few minutes.

Pencil lasts, then you can rub it off for next year.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I use pencil but some times it takes a while as you have to go over what you have written several times before it shows up.

I record everything I plant in an Excel Spreadsheet so this year have just numbered them as it is quicker and then added what number refers to what plant on my laptop. I can also reuse with our rubbing out.

+1, sharpies are good, but a pencil will do just as well

I use the pen I was given for writing on freezer bags ....  Takes a minute or so to dry, but then even bleach wont shift it.

C.D. marker pens work well & don't wash off once dry but they do smudge so don't touch straight away.

I use wooden clothes pegs, they peg onto the loo roll inner, write on them with a freezer marker pen
