I wonder if we are at cross purposes here about early and late psb and what year we are aiming at. It seems at shame that so many people are disappointed by results from a plant I think of as one of the biggest bonuses of having an allotment.

Purple sprouting produces over a long period of time and five plants usually produce all we can eat and give away for perhaps six to eight weeks. I planted it late (for me at least) this year in early July and expect it to produce very early next spring. It occupies the ground for a long time (at a time when there is lots of spare ground anyway) but keeps on producing when there is hardly anything else around unlike, say spring cauliflowers that seem to be around for 18 months and then over the top in minutes!

Last year as an experiment I left one plant in to see if it produced for a second year. It didn't really - a few florets and they were a bit tough. I won't try this again but it sounds more like what some posters on here have experienced. Any experts to advise?
